Jonathan E. Reed Elementary School Wetland Remediation

City of Waterbury - Waterbury, CT

RED was contracted by the City of Waterbury to provide wetland remediation services of contaminated sediment to a 0.8-acre area of wetlands and waters. As part of the scope of work, RED developed a site-specific Health and Safety Plan and a Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) Compliance Plan for submittal and review by the City of Waterbury, the project consultant, and the EPA.


Key services performed by RED included:

► Removal of contaminated sediment to a depth of 4.5 to 8.0 feet below wetland surface

► Diversion of Great Brook

► Dewatering of PCB-impacted water

► Removal of the 40-foot wide by 4-foot high Griggs Street Damn

► Installation of a step pool and associated reestablishment of disturbed wetland and riverine habitat

     approved by the Army Corps of Engineers
